Earthquake can’t stop the music!

We need your help!

The historical building of the Croatian Music Institute (Hrvatski glazbeni zavod – HGZ), that beautiful “house where music lives”, survived two earthquakes – the first one back in the year 1880, and another in 2020, suffering great damage. The urgent recovery was done in record time, thanks to the funds collected in a donor campaign. Now a constructive remediation is taking place with the funds from the EU Solidarity Fund.

The constructive remediation is in full swing now and we are convinced that it should be finished on time, but it is only a part of a truly extensive job! The complete restoration of the building is to be done yet, in order to reopen our doors to music, performers and the public.

In the meantime we must survive as a self-funded association, without the premises of our own at the moment and without revenues for our regular business. However, we maintain our optimism – HGZ was created as a civil initiative almost two centuries ago and we are sure that it will survive with the support of the citizens, donors and patrons.

The HGZ directorate, headed by Asst. Prof. Romana Matanovac Vučković PhD, is making a true effort to find a way of financing. Competitions are monitored, foundations in the country and abroad are studied, sponsors are sought and donor concerts are being planned.

Without your help the association cannot continue its life path, almost two centuries long!

We need the funding in order to:

  • preserve the activities of the association
  • continue our regular business
  • settle the costs of the renovation which are necessary, and are not acceptable in the EU Solidarity Fund
